Congrats to Lei Yu and the rest of the team that produced an excellent report of shell-induced Ostwald ripening for hollow iron oxide nanocapsules. This is a beautiful in situ STEM heating report of the creation of hollow nanostructures, demonstrating the strength of the microscope for running and analyzing experiments. By directly observing the entire hollowing mechanism, we’re able to study each step in the transformation. Such observations are critical for capturing metastable phases through the manipulation of low-energy transformation pathways. Check out the full publication at ACS Nano.
